If you google benefits from walking, all kinds of options pop up. Some include the benefits of walking after eating, walking barefoot, walking with a weighted vest, or even walking backward. Each has their claim to improve a physical mechanic, and I am sure some might be true. The one thing they all have in common is the act of walking. Without walking, there is no benefit. Mayo Clinic, in a recent post about walking, described great benefits that include weight management, boost energy, enhance endurance, and reduce stress. All benefit current health factors and longevity. (Staff, 2026)

If you do the same search with a spiritual focus, we could look at a phrase often used in Christian circles as “Walking with God/Jesus”. This search brings up song lyrics, books, drinks and of course Bible verses. Simple definitions are not so easy to find. Our best resource, The Holy Bible, Micah 6:8:

“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do
justly and To love mercy And to walk humbly with your God?’ (NKJV, 2020)

A note from the late Reverand Billy Graham describes walking with God as “staying close to him”. You might ask “How can I walk with someone who is not even on earth?” That is a good question and there are answers. Just like walking is the common denominator that produces change physically, spiritual walking involves engaging in a relationship with Jesus where the heart and mind make a conscious decision to focus on Jesus in this life. This spiritual awakening is among the first steps to knowing God, finding Jesus and walking in peace.

If you want to know more about walking with Jesus spiritually and all the benefits it adds to life now plus eternity, there are many people at First Love on Main who would love to talk to you about it.
