It’s that time of the year. Shopping peaks because of plans to lavish our loved ones with exciting items. Hoping to represent love and friendship. We call it gift exchange. Webster’s Dictionary online defines a gift as something given freely to another without compensation. In other words, you don’t pay for it. It’s simply given from its owner to someone. In most settings, gifts are given but another is received interchangeably at Christmas.
It’s a fun time and way to express our feelings towards others. Children love receiving gifts, especially toys, this time of the year. Christmas is a designated time to share or exchange gifts and we should do so. There are many quotes and ideas that can be used to define the greatest of all gifts. Some might suggest time, love, or even life itself. As Christians, we believe the best gift includes those three plus more.
“ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NKJV).
This scripture from the Bible explains that God gave us the gift of His Son, Jesus. That is the true (gift) reason we have a Christmas Celebration. It is the ultimate gift freely given. God’s expression of love and time giving eternal life. During this season of gift giving and exchange, think about God’s gift of Jesus to us. Believing or accepting this truth will prove to be your best gift ever.
